Getting active in your union is the best way to build your career and strengthen your community. District Council 9 members are encouraged to join one of our member-driven committees and join the fight to protect the rights of workers throughout New York. District Council 9’s Political Action Committee (PAC) is a membership-driven committee, designed to help members get involved in the political process. Members learn about the candidates, elected officials, and City & State Agencies that shape the political and legal landscape in which we work. By empowering members to become politically involved, DC 9 aims to educate politicians at the city, state, and federal level about the challenges facing workers in the construction world. Members of the PAC also participate in Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) actions and member-to-member engagement in the lead-up to elections.

The District Council 9 Volunteer Organizing Committee (VOC) is a member-driven committee promoting membership engagement in union organizing efforts. Our members are taught the importance of being actively engaged with both the union and the community, in addition to the value of working to educate the general public on the role of unions in fighting for the rights of all workers.

The Women’s Committee is made up of women from every trade represented by District Council 9. The Women’s Committee was created to help educate and integrate younger women members as they enter the trades. The committee provides a safe space to discuss concerns and address important issues facing women in the construction field.

The Young Lions represent the up-and-coming leaders of the District Council 9 International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. By fostering community engagement, the Young Lions cultivate leadership among our young members, laying the foundation for a successful career within a union trade.
