DC 9 Scholarship Opportunities

The following scholarship opportunities are available to children of District Council 9 members on an annual basis according to the requirements and qualifications of each program. There is no guarantee that you will qualify for or are entitled to awards from any of the following scholarship funds simply by qualifying and applying. Additional information and requirements are listed on each application. We encourage all who qualify to apply and as a Union are proud to be able to offer these opportunities to the next generation for their educational endeavors.

Once applications are available each year, links to additional information and to access applications will be listed for each scholarship below.

 

District Council 9 Scholarship Fund

The DC 9 Scholarship is available to full time undergraduate students who are dependents of full dues paying members of an affiliated Local Union of District Council 9. Applications are typically mailed out during the summer of each year and scholarships awarded in November.

Local Union Scholarship Fund

The Local Union Scholarship is available to full time undergraduate students who are dependents of full dues paying members of Local Unions 18, 19, 20, 24, 113, 490, 1456 and 1486. This is a new scholarship opportunity for the 2022-23 year. Applications are mailed typically out during the summer of each year and scholarships awarded in November.

William Elfeld Scholarship Fund

The William Elfeld Scholarship is available to full time undergraduate students who are dependents of full dues paying members of Glaziers Local Union 1087. Applications are mailed typically out during the summer of each year and scholarships awarded in November.

Local Union 1974 Scholarship Fund

The Local Union 1974 Scholarship is available to full time undergraduate students who are dependents of full dues paying members of Local Union 1974. Applications are mailed typically out during the summer of each year and scholarships awarded in November.

Association of Master Painters & Decorators of New York Scholarship (Painting Industry Promotion Fund)

The Painting Industry Promotion Fund Scholarship is available to any member of Local Unions 18, 19, 20, 24, 113, 490, 806, 1087, 1456 and 1486 who has a son or daughter graduating from high school, has maintained at least a B average, and will attend an accredited four-year university. Once awarded, you may submit your transcripts each year for additional award.

Association of Wall-Ceiling and Carpentry Industries (WC&C) Scholarship

The Association of Wall-Ceiling and Carpentry Industries (WC&C) Scholarship is available to children that are a high school senior or a freshman, sophomore or junior in college AND have a parent who is a member in good standing of Drywall Tapers Local Union 1974 or District Council 9 AND has worked for a WC&C Contractor Member for a minimum of four weeks in the previous calendar year.

Martin Kittle Scholarship Fund

The Martin Kittle Scholarship Fund, in partnership with Local Union 806, offers scholarship opportunities to dependent children of members in good standing of Structural Steel and Bridge Painters of Greater New York, Local 806, IUPAT, AFL-CIO that are high school seniors who will be graduating during the current academic year and will enter the first year of college in September and are accepted in an accredited four-year college or university. Once awarded, you may submit your transcripts each year for additional award.

Tim Ahern Scholarship Fund

Tim Ahern Scholarship Fund, sponsored by the New York Structural Steel Painting Contractors Association Industry Promotion Fund, offers scholarship opportunities to children of Structural Steel & Bridge Painters Local Union 806 members who have earned eligibility working for an contributing employer of the New York Structural Steel Industry Promotion Fund, is a high school senior who will be graduating during the current academic year, has maintained a B average in high school, and will enter their first year of college in September at an accredited 4-year university. Once awarded, you may submit your transcripts each year for additional award.

IUPAT A. L. “Mike” Monroe/Ralph D. Williams, III, Sports Scholarship

The IUPAT A. L. “Mike” Monroe/Ralph D. Williams, III, Sports Scholarship is available to legal dependents of IUPAT members in good standing. All applicants must submit by email, a 1,000-word essay in PDF format describing why they should receive this award. Applications are typically mailed out in the fall with the IUPAT Journal and scholarships awarded in the Spring.

IUPAT Frank “Bud” Raftery Scholarship

The IUPAT Frank “Bud” Raftery Scholarship is available to sons, daughters, or legal dependents of IUPAT members in good standing. All applicants must submit by email, an essay in PDF format, no less than 1,000 words and no more than 2,000 words, on an essay topic selected by the IUPAT Scholarship. Applications are typically mailed out in the fall with the IUPAT Journal and scholarships awarded in the Spring.
